Beginner Developer Challenge: Automated Rent-Reclaim Bot for Kora Operators

Overview

Kora makes it easy for apps to sponsor transactions and account creation on Solana. This improves user experience, but it comes with a hidden cost: rent-locked SOL.

When a Kora node sponsors account creation, SOL is locked as rent. Over time, many of these accounts become inactive, closed, or no longer needed. In most cases, operators do not actively track or reclaim this rent, leading to silent capital loss.

This bounty focuses on solving that operational gap.

Your task is to design and build an automated rent-reclaim bot that monitors sponsored accounts created through a Kora node and safely reclaims rent SOL when those accounts are closed or eligible for cleanup. This should help Kora operators recover funds without manual inspection or guesswork.

The goal is not just automation, but clarity. The bot should help operators understand where their rent went, what was reclaimed, and why.

Requirements

Your submission must include a working bot that:

• Monitors accounts sponsored by a Kora node

• Detects when an account is closed or no longer required

• Reclaims the locked rent SOL back to the operator treasury

Additional requirements:

• Code must be fully open source

• A detailed README explanation of how Kora works and where rent locking happens

• A working prototype on devnet or mainnet

• A deep-dive content piece explaining your approach (video or written)

• Must be built solo

• If selected as a winner, you must do a live walkthrough presentation

• The winning code will be pushed to the SuperteamNG repository

What You Can Build

You are free to choose the interface and approach, as long as the core logic works.

Possible directions include:

Automation Bots

• A Telegram bot that alerts operators and triggers reclaim actions

• A cron-based backend service that runs periodic checks

• A CLI tool that operators can run on demand

Monitoring and Reporting

• A dashboard showing total rent locked vs reclaimed

• Logs that explain why an account was reclaimed

• Alerts when large amounts of rent are idle

Safety and Controls

• Whitelists or filters to avoid claiming active accounts

• Clear transaction history and audit trail

Technical Expectations

Your solution should demonstrate:

• Understanding of Solana rent mechanics

• Understanding of how Kora sponsors accounts

• Safe handling of account closures and rent reclaim logic

• Clean and readable code with comments

You do not need to build a frontend unless it helps explain the tool.

You may use any stack, but these tools are encouraged:

• Solana JSON RPC – account state and rent inspection

• Kora APIs and docs – sponsored transaction logic

• TypeScript or Rust – bot or service logic

• Anchor – optional, if custom program logic is needed

• Telegram Bot API – optional interface layer

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be judged based on:

• Correct handling of rent reclaim logic

• Clear explanation of how Kora sponsorship works

• Reliability and safety of the bot

• Code clarity and documentation

• Practical usefulness for real Kora operators

Bonus points for:

• Clean logs or dashboards

• Alerting and reporting features

• Thoughtful edge-case handling

Prizes

A total prize pool of $1,000 USDC will be distributed among the top submissions:

• 1st Place: 500 USDC

• 2nd Place: 300 USDC

• 3rd Place: 200 USDC
