The Nigerian Solana ecosystem is a hotbed of innovation, with builders crafting solutions that address unique local challenges while laying the groundwork for global impact. Nigerian teams are quietly pioneering retail-facing, safety-first, and mobile-friendly apps.
This $5,000 writing bounty challenges talented writers to dive deep into these pioneering efforts. We seek compelling analyses that highlight the unique product-market fit strategies employed by Nigerian Solana startups and the profound lessons they offer to the global Web3 community. Your task is to investigate how these teams are flipping conventional wisdom by prioritising user behaviour and local context in their design choices.
This bounty calls for a long-form article, essay, or research paper that explores what Nigerian Solana startups teach us about product-market fit, particularly through their behavior-first approach to DeFi and other Web3 applications.
The submission should:
Dive deeply into 2-3 (or more) standout Nigerian-built products on Solana, explicitly identifying the projects and their builders within the SuperteamNG ecosystem where possible. Participants are encouraged to explore the diverse range of projects listed in the SuperteamNG Product Directory: https://product.superteamng.fun/ to select their case studies.
Analyse their design choices, which prioritise simplicity, a withdrawals-first approach, and community-led growth.
Show how these choices directly address local Nigerian user behaviours and pain points, making their solutions practical and accessible.
Articulate specific lessons that global founders can learn from this behavior-first approach to building in Web3, demonstrating how these local innovations hold "global ambitions."
Go beyond mere description to provide critical analysis and insightful perspectives on why these strategies are effective and how they challenge conventional wisdom in Web3 development.
Submissions are encouraged to explore the topic through one or more of the following suggested framing angles:
How are Nigerian teams designing apps that feel like fintech, even though they run on-chain? What can global teams learn from simplifying UX and removing crypto jargon?
What are the usage patterns of products like Paj Cash, Verxio Protocol, NectarFi, Airbillspay, etc? How are users sticking around, even when they don’t tweet or interact on-chain?
How do you build for users who don’t care about decentralisation, and just want something that works?
What real-world behaviours do Nigerian users show around money, and how are teams designing around that? What does that teach us about friction, risk, and motivation?
How do constraints (regulatory, financial, technical) shape product decisions in the Nigerian context? How does constraint lead to smarter, tighter product-market fit?
Format: Submissions must be in the form of a long-form article, essay, or research paper published on a public platform (e.g., Substack, Medium, or even the X article composer).
X (Twitter) Summary Thread: Each submitted article must be accompanied by a concise summary thread posted on X (Twitter), linking back to the full article. This thread should highlight key takeaways and encourage engagement with the main piece.
Please note: While an accompanying summary thread on X (Twitter) is required, a standalone Twitter thread format is not acceptable for this bounty.
Length: Minimum 2,000 words, maximum 5,000 words.
Language: All submissions must be in English.
Originality: Content must be 100% original and not previously published elsewhere. Plagiarised content will result in immediate disqualification.
Research & Citations: Submissions must be well-researched, providing external sources and references where appropriate (e.g., links to product documentation, interviews, data). Proper citation is required.
Clarity & Coherence: The writing should be clear, well-structured, and present a coherent argument with a strong narrative flow.
Accuracy: All factual claims, technical details, and project descriptions must be accurate.
Local Context: Demonstrated understanding of the Nigerian context, user behaviours, and the challenges/opportunities unique to the region.
A total prize pool of $5,000 USDC will be distributed among the top submissions:
1st Place: 2,000 USDC
2nd Place: 1,500 USDC
3rd Place: 1000 USDC
4th Place: 500 USDC
Submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Depth of Research & Analysis: How thoroughly has the writer investigated the chosen products and underlying market dynamics? Does the piece offer genuinely new insights and critical analysis beyond superficial descriptions?
Relevance to Scope: How well does the submission address all aspects of the prompt, particularly the focus on product-market fit, behaviour-first design, lessons for global founders, and the use of Nigerian Solana products?
Originality & Insight: Does the piece present fresh perspectives or challenge existing narratives in a compelling way? Is the analysis insightful and thought-provoking, and does it align with the suggested framing angles?
Clarity, Structure & Writing Quality: Is the writing clear, concise, and engaging? Is the argument logically structured, easy to follow, and free of grammatical errors?
Impact & Practicality of Lessons: How valuable are the lessons extracted for the broader Web3 ecosystem? Do they offer practical takeaways for builders and entrepreneurs? Does the piece surface strong insights about real-world user behaviour and provide compelling examples from live products? Does it offer a compelling argument for why Nigeria might be the best place in the world to test whether a Solana app can truly serve people?
Engagement & Reach: While not a primary scoring criterion, submissions that demonstrate significant organic reach and engagement on the publication and accompanying X (Twitter) summary thread may receive bonus consideration.
Participation in this bounty is entirely voluntary. Bounties are a way to learn and dabble in opportunities to build in Web3. These are neither full-time jobs nor project-based engagements. Please be advised that the sponsors will not have time for individualised feedback due to the number of entries we receive.
