Writing Short Fiction Stories 3

Contest Overview:

Infinity Labs Community is back with its third short fiction writing contest! Craft a story inspired by the Solverse’s scene categories. Choose one of the provided writing prompts from the Solverse’s scene categories and craft a story based on that scenario.

Your short story must incorporate lore from The Solverse, the “Established Universe”, in some way.

Submit as many entries as you like, with each entry between 300–700 words.

The “Established Universe” and its official 8 distinct scene categories

The Solverse is a vast, creative universe built from many interconnected worlds, their shape mirroring the infinity symbol.

At its core are eight distinct scene categories: creatures, events, plant life, magical items, celestial beings, cosmos, landmarks, and landscapes.

These scene categories not only guide storytellers, they make it easier for builders to create on top of our ecosystem.

Thousands of lore submissions from the community have expanded the Solverse, making it a living world crafted and written together.

For more information on The Solverse, including known factions, visual scenes, and references, please visit the wiki here: https://infinitylabs.fandom.com/wiki/Infinity_Labs_Wiki

Deliverable: A publicly shared Google Document link that contains your short story. You may submit as many times as you like.

Tip: Experiment writing your story from different perspectives!

Some Infinity Labs community pieces for additional inspiration:

• Time Lord

• 'Håkon the Broken' ('inciting incident')

• 'Five' (longer adventure)

• Solverse Wiki Snippets

• The Infinite Canvas: The Edge of Both Ends

Deliverable: A publicly shared Google Doc link that contains your short story. You may submit as many times as you like.

Tip: Experiment writing your story from different perspectives!

Judging Criteria:

1. Incorporation of Established Universe: The story should meaningfully integrate elements of the Solverse. This includes drawing from its interconnected worlds, known factions, realms, and especially the eight official scene categories. Writers are encouraged to use the community wiki as inspiration when referencing established lore, characters, or places. Above all, the story should feel like a plausible part of the Established Universe, expanding the Solverse in a way that remains true to its foundation.

2. Creativity: The story ideas, concepts, and references should be unique and original.

3. Writing Style & Presentation: The quality of writing should include proper grammar, punctuation, and the use of descriptive language to engage the reader. The plot should be coherent and logical.

4. Engagement: The story should captivate and engage the reader, keeping them interested and invested in the narrative.

Submission Requirements:

1. Your submission will be rejected if it is not in English, if it contains fewer than 300 words, more than 700 words, or is a joke response.

2. The link to your submission should be publicly viewable on and after the submission deadline. Private links will not be accepted.

3. For multiple submissions, create a Google Doc and add each of your submission links to it. Then, submit the link to your Google Doc here on Earn as your official entry.

4. Story threads on X are appreciated!

5. Once the submissions have been made, no changes can be made to the submission form.

6. Bring the creativity, but leave the negativity. Unserious or disrespectful entries won’t be considered.

7. You must follow us on X.

8. Join our Discord server and share your entry in the community for extra points!
